| It is the sound of silence. The crackle of a warm fire. It is the time to read an entire book, or three. It is the rush of a challenging backcountry ski descent followed by the relaxation of a sweat in our sauna. It is friends and family playing together in a sublime winter wonderland. It is your child's first day on skis. The comradery and conversations of fellow guests around the diningroom table. It is not having to cook or clean up a single meal. As the years pass and things change, Rock Creek Lodge is here to make sure your priorities remain the same.
Whether you have ever skied or not, Rock Creek Lodge has terrain perfect for your ability. With 15 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails surrounded by endless touring, telemark, or randonée ski terrain, the beauty of the John Muir Wilderness lies at your fingertips. For those families looking to avoid the crowds of Mammoth, Rock Creek Lodge is a quiet winter paradise. Never crowded, even on the busiest weekends, it is the perfect place to learn or improve your cross-country skiing, and/or the perfect place to score untracked powder weeks after a storm, and there's no driving, no cooking, no hassle. We take care of everything, or almost. We'll transport you and your gear via snowmobile the two miles from car to wood-fire warmed rustic cabin; serve you multi-course gourmet meals complete with fine wines and local/micro brews in our beautiful new diningroom, offer ski instruction, equipment rentals, an authentic dry-heat Finnish sauna, and great local knowledge regarding conditions and terrain. All you need is a big smile, and a hardy mountain spirit. For well over half a century, winter at Rock Creek Lodge has been the local's secret. A place of intense beauty, vast wilderness, and pure solitude, not to mention, home to some of the driest snow in the Sierra Nevada. With the combination of spectacular terrain, and a fun, relaxed atmosphere, individuals, families, and couples alike are sure to experience the magic that's been drawing skiers since the pre-eminent Sierra mountaineer Norman Clyde, became the canyon's first winter resident nearly 80 years ago. |
